Naturopathy and Health Insurance in Australia: A 2025 Update

A Shift in Support for Natural Therapies 🌿✨
In 2019, the Australian Government removed private health insurance rebates for 16 natural therapies — including naturopathy — following a review that questioned their clinical effectiveness. This change left many patients and practitioners frustrated, as natural therapies play an essential role in holistic wellness for thousands of Australians.
ANTA’s Advocacy for Naturopathy
The Australian Natural Therapists Association (ANTA) has been a strong voice in defending the value of natural therapies. By upholding high professional standards, strict education requirements, and a commitment to evidence-based practice, ANTA has helped restore credibility to the field.
Thanks to ANTA’s consistent advocacy, many private health insurers are once again recognizing naturopaths registered with ANTA. Over 50 health funds now acknowledge ANTA-accredited naturopaths, improving access to rebates and coverage options for patients across the country.

What This Means for You
While not all insurers have fully reinstated rebates for naturopathy, this recent shift marks a promising change. If you’re seeing a qualified naturopath — especially one registered with ANTA — you may be eligible for private health insurance benefits again.
We encourage all patients to check directly with their health fund to confirm what’s included under their current policy, as coverage can vary.
